Biography

‘Captain’ Phil Tarrant (Captain Phil) is a Master Mariner. After working for 45 years at sea in the Merchant Navy has now retired due to ill health. He held command of some of the largest oil tankers and travelled extensively all over the world.

In his retirement he runs an internet radio station that carries programmes about the sea and canals of Britain as well as other great content.

He is actively involved in the helping to restore the Shropshire & Newport Canals, which have lain derelict for over 50 years, back into a working canal with its associated benefits for the community in the local area.

Interests include the canal restoration project, good music, environmental matters and helping future generations of seafarers by fostering the knowledge and the old skills he has gained over his many years working in the marine industry.
